An axial fan is a type of a compressor that increases the pressure of the air flowing through it. The blades of the axial-flow fans force air to moveparallel to the shaft about which the blades rotate. In other words, the flow is axially in and axially out, linearly, hence their name.

An axial-flow fan works on different principals than a centrifugal fan. In an axial, the flow of air is parallel to the shaft where as a centrifugal fan works by throwing air away from it blades. In a centrifugal fan, the blades can be straight, backward, or forward curved and the blade wheel is mounted in housings.

Structure of Axial Fans:
